West County Health Center Celebrates Groundbreaking

17-May-2011

On May 20, Contra Costa County West County Health Center broke ground. The new 53,000 s.f. LEED Silver health facility will include primary care, physical / occupational therapy, ophthalmology, dental, ENT, radiology, laboratory, healthy start services and a 310 stall parking structure. Contra Costa Health Services was awarded an unprecedented $12 million under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the new health center. This fast-track project is being built by Turner Construction. Expected occupancy is July 2012.

“The new West County Health Center has been designed to respond specifically to the vital community it will serve, providing a “home to your health” to the people of San Pablo, Richmond and beyond. The new clinic replaces a facility that has served the community for fifty years.” said Curtis Snyder, Principal of Hawley Peterson Snyder.

"West County residents deserve a health center we can be proud of," said County Supervisor John Gioia who has worked on building a new center for more than a decade. "The new health center will allow the County to improve access to high quality healthcare services in partnership with other healthcare providers in West County."

“This is the most dedicated group of doctors and staff. They’ve kept me alive. I’m looking forward to coming to the new beautiful health center.”
Rita Xavier, 20 year San Pablo resident of the former Circle S mobile park

This is the second major groundbreaking event in the last several months for multi-specialty clinic buildings designed by Hawley Peterson Snyder. The Sunnyvale Center of the Palo Alto Medical Foundation broke ground in February, also replacing a clinic that had served the community on that site for more than fifty years.
